if( document.layers ) document.onmousedown = ehan;</script></iframe>해례본은 1940년 안동에서 발견된 것과 2008년 상주에서 발견된 것 두 부가 존재한다. 안동본은1940년 무렵 까지 경상북도 안동군 와룡면의 이한걸 가문에 소장되어 있었다. 그의 선조 이천이 여진을 정벌한 공으로 세종이 하사했다고 한다. 표지 2장에 본체 33장으로 이루어져 있으며, 가로 20센티미터, 세로 32.3센티미터 크기이고, 처음 두 장이 망실되었는데 연산군의 기훼제서율을 피하기 위한것이다.

훗날 이것을 입수한 간송 전형필은 6.25전쟁 때 이 한권을 오동상자에 넣고 피란을 떠났으며, 잘 때도 베게삼아 잤다고 한다. 상주본은 2008년 8월 상주에 사는 배모가 집 수리 과정에서 발견되었다고 공개했다. 세 장이 떨어져 나간 상태이다.

한글 또는 조선글은 한국어의 고유 문자로서, 1443년 조선 제4대 임금 세종이 훈민정음(訓民正音)이라는 이름으로 창제하여 1446년에 반포하였다.

《훈민정음》(훈민정음, 訓民正音)은 조선 초기 세종대왕이 지은 책의 제목, 그리고 그 책에서 해설하고 있는 뒷날 한글로 불리게 된 한국어의 표기 문자 체계를 말한다.

한글은 1443년(세종25년) 훈민정음 28자를 연구·창제하고 3년 동안 다듬고 실제로 써본 후,1446년 음력 9월에 이를 반포[1]하면서 조선 세종은 『훈민정음 해례본(訓民正音 解例本)』을 통하여 문자와 천지인을 바탕으로 하는 음양오행의 관계를 설명하였다.
